Further information on Gestational Diabetes with a couple laughs thrown in!
* Most women with gestational diabetes have healthy babies because it is spotted and treated!
* If not treated, your large amounts of sugar in your blood will cross the placenta to your baby
* The baby may have a risk of growing larger than normal
* Uncontrolled diabetes can result in too much amniotic fluid developing around the baby
* You get extra ultrasounds throughout the remaining pregnancy!
* Exercise is very beneficial
* Could cause early labor or will be offered induction between 38-40 weeks depending on baby size
* Don't birth in a birth pool :)
* After being born baby will be monitored for too low blood sugar
* May be born with jaundice (sooo many babies are no matter what though!)
* Breastfeeding will help protect your baby as she grows
* Mom will be tested to see if she still exhibits diabetes after the birth, although it usually goes away
* One in five moms already have, but might not have known they had, type 2 diabetes before they conceive
